No visit to Wyoming County is complete without a trip to the iconic Grand Canyon of the East! Voted the #1 State Park by USA Today readers, Letchworth State Park is one of the most scenically magnificent areas in all of the eastern US. Set against lush forests, the Genesee River cuts through the gorge and plunges down three waterfalls for breathtaking views. Families can wander over 66 miles of trails, let the kids burn off some energy, and keep an eye out for the local animals, including several endangered bird species. Adventure-seekers can kick it up a notch with horseback riding, whitewater rafting, and even hot air balloon rides above the falls! No matter the time of year, Letchworth is stunning.
Spend an afternoon soaking up the sun and enjoying the fresh air at the Beaver Meadow Audubon Center. This hidden woodland gem spans over 300 acres of meadows, wetlands, glacial ponds, an arboretum, and 8 miles of marked trails. Start your visit with a stop at the Visitor Center, where you can explore the indoor exhibits to learn about the local flora and fauna who call this area home. Check out the observation windows where visitors often see deer, woodchucks, foxes, bunnies and more. The center is open year-round for exploration, perfect for a summer hike, fall sightseeing or a winter snowshoe.
Step back in time to the peak of railroad travel at the Arcade and Attica Railroad! This authentic shortline railroad is one of the last operating excursion trains in New York. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely two-hour ride through the rolling hills of Wyoming County, or
enjoy a specialty ride like Murder Mystery and Fall Foliage. The Railroad also hosts themed rides for kids and adults, ranging from Polar Express to Ales on the Rails. Your journey to the past begins before you board, at the historic rail station. Once the conductor blows the whistle, your adventure begins!
