Step into the history of the Civil War!

Join us as we step beyond the battlefield and onto the homefront to connect with the people, stories, and ideas that link Genesee Country Village & Museum to America’s greatest conflict – the Civil War. GCV&M’s costumed historic interpreters, tradespeople, and special guests – including Civil War scholars and experts – will present exciting experiences steeped in the details of history relevant to New York State and the Genesee Valley region in the 1860s – and the impacts that continue to reverberate in modern life.
Discover fascinating stories about the ways civilian life in our region was impacted by the Civil War when you join us for this special event weekend, now hosted in May! GCV&M does not host opposing force fire demonstrations or reenactments, but rather gives visitors the opportunity to engage with our historic interpreters and guest experts to better understand this tumultuous era in American History and the connections to our American experience today. Explore the relationship between President Lincoln and Frederick Douglass, see every detail of the garments Union soldiers wore into battle, smell coffee and bacon cooking over open fires, watch musket loading drills, and so much more.
