Officially opened in July 2020, the 10 ft. wide crushed stone multi-use recreational trail has been created on old railroad beds, sidewalks, bike lanes and bridges. The trail is 9.7 miles out-and-back, connecting recreational, historical and residential areas, also crossing the Tonawanda Creek.
The trail’s eastern entrance is on Seven Springs Rd., (near Oakwood Hills subdivision), and its western entrance is on Industrial Boulevard (off Pearl St., Rt. 33). In between, it passes over the CSX railway on a refurbished bridge with covered bridge similarities, winds its way through the picturesque DeWitt Recreation Area on Cedar St. and the Historic Elmwood Cemetery, then travels along Ellicott St. to a new bridge over the Tonawanda Creek near Walnut St., and finally passing through Williams Park on Pearl St.
The trail is good for all skill levels. Parking is available at Williams Park, Dewitt Recreational Area, throughout downtown Batavia and along Red Oak Lane. Dogs are not allowed through the Elwmood Cemetery portion, but the rest is dog-friendly.
The trail is open year-round from dawn to dusk.
